This client’s garden was quite shady due to the tall hedges on both sides of the long space but the client was keen to have a lawn to allow her dogs to exercise. Additionally she wanted more growing space as well as dedicated vegetable beds and an apple tree.

A curving path led the eye from the existing patio, past the hot tub to a seating area and the vegetable beds and chicken coop...

...Raised planters around the hot tub softened its appearance and gave space for climbers to be planted to clamber over the new pergola.

The client had a set of slate tiles that she wanted to use in the design and these were used to break up the walls at the base of the hedges and provide visual interest. The borders were planted to provide year round interest but with species that could withstand the dogs’ playtime!

This design was for a family who were keen to make the most of their garden as well as grow their own fruit and vegetables. The simple deck and pergola, planted with climbing evergreen jasmine to provide evening scent, was perfect for dining. The design then consisted of a sweeping lawn with planted borders to a second bench area. This provided both a great place for play as well as an ornamental growing space...

...Espaliered fruit trees were planted along the original stone wall to maximise productivity but keeping maintenance low.

A raised planter opposite the patio windows offered a way to enjoy the garden from inside the house and a new set of steps provided access to the lawn.
